Mind Renovation – Day 12 – Word Wealth

Today, let’s inventory our THOUGHTS and the WORDS we produce from those thoughts. I challenge you to take an inventory of your words for the next 24 hours, including the words that float around in your mind like a song stuck on repeat.
Thoughts and words are inseparable.  Words come to our brain as thoughts and then out of our mouth as a message. Complementary and reciprocal, it’s hard to tell which came first.
words are containers
Words are CONTAINERS; they hold power to create or destroy life. Proverbs 18:21 (AMP) says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue …”

For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. A good man out of the good treasure of his heart** brings forth good things…Matthew 12:34-35 (NKJ)

**kardia = the soul or mind, as it is the fountain and seat of the thoughts, passions, desires, appetites, affections, purposes, endeavors

You Are A Hoarder

Whether you know it or not, you are a word hoarder! Every day you store words in the thesaurus of your soul. How is your word wealth?

The Greek word for treasure is thesaurus, which means “a place in which good and precious things are collected and laid up; a storehouse.”

We collect many negative words in our hearts throughout life. Many were whispered about us behind our backs, written about us, spoken over us or yelled at us. We collect those words and STORE them up to recycle. The words you store up will write the story of your life!

Look at this list of words:

unloved, ugly, repulsive, loser, betrayed, confused, afraid, dirty, troubled, anxious, depressed, diseased, abandoned, impoverished, shamed, bitter, barren, outcast, overwhelmed, forsaken, stupid, deceived

If I handed you a thesaurus with those words and told you to write a story with them, what kind would it be? I cannot imagine that it would be an uplifting or enjoyable one.

What if I gave you these words instead?

fully loved, faithful, overjoyed, abundant, redeemed, healed, accepted, victorious, empowered, fruitful, beautiful, radiant, befriended, restored, wise, creative, celebrated, forgiven, courageous, righteous

What story could you now create? Which list would you choose to write the story of your destiny? I pick the second list!

words write your story

In the beginning God dreamed and then SPOKE creation out of chaos. God said, “Let there be…” and the universe continues to expand at this moment, from the creative word God spoke ages ago! Words are containers of energy–either positive (life) or negative (death). Science is proving this phenomenon.

By holding a positive and optimistic [word] in your mind, you stimulate frontal lobe activity. This area includes specific language centers that connect directly to the motor cortex responsible for moving you into action. And as our research has shown, the longer you concentrate on positive words, the more you begin to affect other areas of the brain. Functions in the parietal lobe start to change, which changes your perception of yourself and the people you interact with. A positive view of yourself will bias you toward seeing the good in others, whereas a negative self-image will include you toward suspicion and doubt. Over time the structure of your thalamus will also change in response to your conscious words, thoughts, and feelings, and we believe that the thalamic changes affect the way in which you perceive reality. – Word Can Change Your Brain, Andrew Newberg, M.D. and Mark Robert Waldman

If you’re unhappy with your word inventory at the end of the day, go back and see what thoughts are stored up (in abundance) to be poured out. Address those thoughts and bring them captive.

This is one thing that’s ok to hoard and amass immeasurable wealth. Store up GOOD words, ideas and truth that write beautiful stories and provide healing for many.

Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones. Proverbs 15:24

RE: Think

  • Make an effort to bless people with your words. Pick 5 people to encourage. Tell someone how much you appreciate them and specifically name what you love about them.
  • Listen for phrases you repeat often like…”I’m so tired”…”I never have any money”… “I’m so sick”. God created our world to follow our words, so your feelings are following your phrases.

Scripture:

Day 12. A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. Luke 6:45

Prayer:

Lord, I submit my mind to you. Help me to store up uplifting words of life and truth. Strike out the negative words that get stuck in my mind. Help me to speak words of life. Holy Spirit I pray you would convict me when I speak negative words. Set a guard over my mouth and empower me to speak creative words of life.

Big Thought: Our thoughts and words work in powerful partnership together creating life or death.
