Mind Renovation – Day 7 – It’s Your Choice

Celebrate! We’ve made it through one week!

How’s your mind renovation coming? Can’t you just see the Father, the master designer and architect, walking through the rooms and smiling over the progress?

We built a house a few years ago. It was a grueling process, but my favorite thing each week was walking through hunting for improvements and rejoicing over each little completion.

Be patient. Mind renewal takes time. We’ve had bad thought habits for years (some of us decades), so it’s a process of daily faithfulness to renew those old patterns. I love what Kris Valloton says about process.

“If you embrace the promise without the process, you are living in a fantasy.” (Kris Valloton)

I wish it was possible to take BEFORE pics of our minds to see the progress we’ve made in just one week! How are your thoughts begin to shift?

Life Begins with God’s Choice

Life begins with God’s choice; he choose you! (Ephesians 1:4) Then out of his love for us, he gives us our turn to choose.

Long before he laid down earth’s foundations, he had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus of his love, to be made whole and holy by his love. Ephesians 1:4 Message

Deuteronomy 30:19 shares how God set the decision before us–choose life or death. Then, he gives us the answer to the test, saying…hint, chose life and you’ll be blessed. NO BRAINER! Our choices first come as options to our mind, weighed by our values and then acted out by our decisions. Even present day habits (things we now do automatically without thinking) STARTED with a choice.

Choice: an act of selecting or making a decision when faced with two or more possibilities.

Life Is Determined By Your Response

It’s your responsibility to change your thoughts. Only YOU can think for yourself. We’ve heard the classic excuse, “the devil made me do it.” The reality is God gave YOU the choice. You can’t control the thoughts that tempt, or knock on the door of your mind; but you can choose if you let them stay! Just as the devil tempted Jesus to think evil thoughts, Jesus chose life. We have power to make the right choice, through his obedience!

No more excuses or blaming someone else for your thoughts. You can’t control your circumstances, but you can control how your circumstances affect you.

Excuse: intended to lessen or eliminate liability, accountability, or responsibility. An excuse is an end.

Our excuses don’t have to be an end; they can be the starting point where grace rolls up its sleeves and gets to work through us. But it’s your CHOICE. The balls in your court.

Where will you direct your mind–towards life and blessing or death and curses. I’m sure you’ve heard the famous quote by Albert Einstein that says, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.” But, you might not have heard what he said about the power of our thoughts…

God created us to think thoughts of life, but he’s not going to force us. WE CHOOSE.

TEST (check below):

_____ LIFE

_____ DEATH

(Answer Key: Choose life!)

  • If you could see a Before / After pic of your thoughts since Day 1 of the detox, how would they compare?
  • Do the people around you sense an atmosphere life (positive hope) or death (negativity and dread)? Are you leaving an aroma of life or the walking dead?

Day 7. This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live. Duet. 30:19

Father, forgive me for making excuses or blaming others for the choices I’ve made. I take responsibility and will not have a victim mentality. I choose thoughts of life and not death, blessing and not cursing. Let the atmosphere of my life be positive and overflow blessings and encouragement to others. I connect myself to you, the spirit of life; and I pray today I will connect others to life as well.

Big Thought: God gives us the ability and power to choose life. I choose thoughts of life!
